Application for the designation of a neighbourhood area

Malton and Norton Town Councils are committed to jointly preparing a Neighbourhood Plan for the Towns. A neighbourhood Plan is a document which contains local planning policies that will influence decisions on new development at Malton and Norton in the future.

An important step in the neighbourhood plan process is the designation of the neighbourhood area. This is the area that the neighbourhood plan will cover.

The Town Councils have applied to the District Council to designate the Malton and Norton Neighbourhood Area. They are proposing that the area should include all of the area of the parishes of Malton and Norton.

A map of the proposed area and a statement by the Town Councils explaining why the area should be designated as a neighbourhood area can be viewed below.

If you live, work or run a business in and around the towns, you may wish to make comments on the extent of the proposed area. Comments should be sent to: Jill Thompson, Specialist (Place) Team, Ryedale District Council, Ryedale House, Malton, North Yorkshire, YO17 7HH or you can email your comments to This email address is being protected from spambots. Comments should be received before 4:30 on Friday 25 January 2019.

The District Council will consider any comments made in response to the proposed neighbourhood plan area before the area is formally designated.

At this stage, we are only looking for your views on whether the proposed neighbourhood area is an appropriate area for the neighbourhood plan to cover. We are not looking for comments on the issues that the neighbourhood plan should address or the type of policies that the plan should include.
