This study was carried out by consultants in 2004. The area of the research was a corridor formed by the River Derwent and the York-Scarborough railway line. It investigated the potential of six identified sites in the twin towns. These are:
- ATS Area, Norton
- Former Dewhirst's Factory, Norton
- Interchange Area (between Bus and Rail Stations), Norton
- Sheepfoot Hill Area, Malton
- Travis Perkins Area, Malton
- Woolgrowers Site, Norton
The study looked at potential uses for each site taking into account social, environmental and economic considerations. In many cases this was how to overcome possible barriers to allow possible development to take place. Options for each site were drawn up and were then subject to public consultation. Preferred options for the sites were then drawn up, based on the public response. As with the Malton Town Centre study, this work will be taken forward in the Malton & Norton Area Action Plan.
